How Safe Are Solar Electric Systems?
Solar Panel Safety
A properly designed, installed, inspected and commissioned PV system can be entirely safe with regards to anything you might have to consider to be unusually awkward, “risky” to consider, or having to maintain. There are literally no moving parts, and your contact with it (and certainly your home’s electrical system “interfacing” with it), will be practically the same as before you “went solar”. Our professional solar design and installation includes a complete check of your power panel and will note anything that may need to be further considered in that regard.
All grid-interconnection and safety equipment is tested by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (e.g. – UL, c-CSA-us, TUV) for continuous interactive operation with an electric distribution system (your utility), in compliance with IEEE 1547 (Standard for Interconnecting Distributed Resources with Electric Power Systems), IEEE 1547.1 (Standard Conformance Test Procedures for Equipment Interconnecting Distributed Resources {such as solar electric, wind, hydro, etc} with Electric Power Systems), and UL1741 (Inverters, Converters, and Controllers for use in Independent Power Systems). In addition, all system components must be manufactured and installed in compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC). Systems must be permitted and certified by a licensed electrician, along with passing all applicable local code inspections.
Your project will be complete in all matters of safety and conformance with both safety standards and our superior design intentions, for your highest energy yield. Southern View Energy never subcontracts (or worse, “bids”) its electrical work out to others. When you work with Southern View Energy, you’ll actually have US there every step of the way. Our own licensed master electrician is specifically tested for skill in PV installations, by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP, the premier entity in professional solar training), and all other Southern View Energy professionals you see on your job have years of trade and particularly solar experience, and are currently working on (having completed at minimum Basic level) or fully completed their NABCEP installation certifications, too. In summary our crews and staff are highly capable, fully supervised, licensed and insured. We are proud to offer our special knowledge, workmanship and the many years of experience we have in this field to deliver you a reliable, safe and high-performing solar power system installation.
